Week of March 15, 2010

BIOLOGY,
We will continue with our discussion of human genetics this week. There will be 3 lectures on Twin types and Blood typing with a quiz on Thursday. Karyotype labs are due Tuesday and Pedigree analysis Wed, and blood type worksheets for Friday. Have a good week.

Ap Biology,
Lecture Monday will introduce aerobic respiration and cover the steps of the Calvin Cycle.
Tuesday we will set up our seed respiration lab and read results on Wednesday. Second period Wednesday wil be lecture on anaerobic respiration. Thursday will be worksheet and lab report day with Quiz on Respiration Friday. Meiosis and Mitosis will be our next topic.

Week of March 8 2008

BIOLOGY
As I predicted most of you really enjoy Punnett squares and have gotten quite good at solving them. You'll have the opportunity to impress me with your skill in Tuesday's test.100 points up for grabs with 80 of them coming from squares. Wednesday we will start our lecture on Human genetics including twin types and blood types. Thursday will be another lecture on the history of blood types and their Punnett square connection. Followed up woth work sheets and labs that will take us through Friday. No quiz this week.

AP Biology
We are in the middle of our 2 toughest topics of the year.Hopefully I haven't lost anyone.
Monday we will lecture the Calvin Cycle and reinforce with a worksheet. Remember your Lab notebooks are due Tuesday! We will add another lab on Pigment extraction and Chromatography. Wednesday sounds like a good Quiz day lecture on unusual photosynthesis situations...C3/C4 plants and cyclic/noncylic processes.Thursday we will set up a respiration lab and intro respiration in lecture. Friday we will record lab results and graph our results.

week of 3/1/10

Biology
Let's try this again...We've started our Punnett Squares and are now masters of monohybrids. Tuesday we will complete our coin toss probability reports. Wednesday will be a quiz and we'll start on dihybrid crosses.Thursday we will introduce the last type of squares...incomplete dominance and spend the day practicing. Friday will be test prep including Punnett Square races. Monday 3/8/10 will be our major test.

AP Biology.
Tuesdays lab on liver catalase will wrap up our discussion of cells. That means Wednesday is the perfect day for a chapter test! Thursday we will begin the first of the two toughest chapters in the course...photosynthesis, light reaction and Calvin cycle. Hope you are ready to work hard! Lab on pigment extraction and reference front calculations will be done on Friday.

Week of 2/22/10

Biology
After the intense anticipation, Punnett Squares finally start this week! Mondays lecture will introduce terms and techniques needed to solve squares leaving a little time for practice. Tuesday will be practice problems and set up for the Coin Toss Lab which will run Wed and Thursday...Lab Report due Friday. To make sure everyone is keeping up Thursday will be Quiz day on history of Genetics and Punnett squares. Bring calculators if you have them to class each day!

AP Biology
This week will wrap up our study of cells. Monday we will remass the fruits and veggies to calculate content and water potential. Lecture for the day, Enzymes, will get us ready for Tuesday and Wednesdays catalase labs. Thursday will be our cell TEST. At which point we will be ready for the toughest topic of the year Photosynthesis and respiration.

Week of 2/15/10

BIOLOGY
Because of the unexpected winter vacation we are off track with our DNA progress. We were scheduled for a test last Thursday but anticipating a lot of "forgetting" we will review Tuesday and test Wednesday. Be sure to study. Thursday we will start the history of genetics and Punnett squares. No labs this week!

AP Biology
Tuesday we will cover cellular organelles in lecture. Wed will be the lab on fractionation. Thursday active and passive transport lecture topic with lab focused on the determination of sucrose in fruit and veggie samples. Cell Quiz early next week

Week of Feb 8, 2010

BIOLOGY
Early dismissal Friday has classes at different points so our first step is to finish lecture on mutations. Some classes have stated others haven't. The worksheet and writing prompt on mutations will be due for Wednesday.Wednesday lecture on meiosis is planned with worksheets for Thursday and Test on DNA for Friday.

AP BIo
We are moving out of organic chem and into more familiar area...the cell. Monday is scheduled to be full lecture with worksheets. Don't forget lab notebooks are due ! Tuesday Coacervate lab. Wednesday Cellular organelles with fractionation lab Thursday. Cell Quiz for Friday if all goes according to plan.

Week of 2/1/10

BIOLOGY
This week we take the next step with DNA...Protein Synthesis. Monday will be a lecture on the process followed by a worksheet. Tuesday will be an RNA activity that reinforces the concepts. Wednesday I won't be here so you will be working on a packet of worksheets to tie everything together. Quiz this week is Thursday Followed by a lecture on mutations. Friday is an activity called alphabet RNA were you can demonstrate your understanding of transcription/ translation.

AP Biology
We are focusing on Organic Chem. Monday will be all lecture covering Lipids , proteins and nucleic acids. Tuesday will be organic lab day. Wed. you will have to complete labs and research as needed. Thursday worksheet packet as test review and test for Friday. Notebooks will be collected Friday as well.Have a good week
