Week of December 16,2008

BIOLOGY
Bacteria is one of my favorite topics to teach. I hope you enjoyed our culturing activity and discussions. Your labs must be completed and turned in today.We will complete bacteria lecture on Monday with a quiz on Tuesday. I plan on starting right in with VIRUS as our next topic...2 days of lecture should cover the topic well. So we are looking at review on Friday and test Monday 12/21 We will be able to squeeze one more topic in after Christmas before exams..

AP BIOLOGY
We will be ending our discussions of bacteriology and virology with a look at the bodies defenses against disease...the imune system. 2 days of Lecture, worksheets and movie will get us through Wedenesday. So reviewing on Thursday and Testing for Friday is my plan of the moment.

WEEK of November 17 2008

BIOLOGY
This week we will wrap up the study of Taxonomy. Our quiz is scheduled for Wednesday.We have to complete lecture on the development of the kingdoms and interpreting cladograms. A worksheet activity on cladograms will be due for Friday. Next week ,Monday, will be jeopardy review and crossword. Which means test will be Tuesday. So plan ahead and start studying.

AP BIOLOGY
Isn't evolution a fascinating topic? Our class discussions have been great! I appreciate your enthusiasm. We will broaden our topic to now include ...what constitutes a species and how behaviors influence patterns of evolution. We have one more lab...probably for Thursday which brings our 2 lecture topics to life. I'm planning a TEST for next Tuesday and will collect lab notebooks before break. Be sure to have a conclusion as well as analysis questions for each!

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 10

BIOLOGY
This week starts off with our big unit test on Chapter 11. Hopefully everyone will wow me with their knowledge. I'm planning on starting our new topic ...Classification on Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday we will work with a scientific classification tool called the "dicotomous key". There is a lab and a worksheet due on this topic for Friday. We will finish off the week researching cladograms and evolutionary trees. No tests or quizzes this week!

AP BIOLOGY.
We will be moving into our new topic of Natural selection. Starting Monday with Intro lecture and lab..Biochemical evidence in supprt of evolution. Lots of labs this week mixed in with our lectures. Orgami birds will demonstrate survival of the fittest, and fishy frequencies will explain why recessive traits aren't lost from a population. No tests this week but I will collect notebook next Monday.

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 3, 2008

BIOLOGY
Charles Darwin and the Theory of Natural Selection will be our topic for the week.I"m planning lectures for Monday and Wednesday this week They won"t be full period since we have labs that must be completed. Quiz will be Tuesday starting with notes on geologic time. Labs will all be due by Thursday which will also be Jeopardy review day, FRIDAY WILL BE CHAPTER TEST DAY FOR CHAPTERS 10-12.

AP BIOLOGY
Monday this week will be a lab day. We will try our luck with DNA extraction from cheek cells and gel electrophoresis. Tuesday we will lecture "genetics revisited" Some newer concepts and approaches will be covered and a reinforcement worksheet will be provided. Wednesdays lecture will be genetic mistakes and the problems that result. If time permits we will review 2nd period for our topic TEST on GENETICS planned for Thursday. Friday we will begin our new topic of Natural Selection .

week of October 20, 2008

BIOLOGY
This week we will begin our new topic...The origin of life and Evolution. Chapter 12 review 11-23 is due by Tuesday. Since this is a new topic we will be spending Monday- Wednesday in Lecture. I'd like to have a quiz on Thursday followed be a lab on radioactive decay and fossils.Which will be due by the end of class on Friday.

AP BIOLOGY
What a week to try and plan... Thursday and Friday will be our only uninterrupted days. We are still focusing onthe Cell cycle and Meiosis so Monday(when everyone is back from the mine)we will lecture gamete formation. Tuesday(after 10:30 arrival) we will review and work on cell cycle lab.Wednesday we will complete labs and study guides. I plan on having a quiz on Thursday after which we will review classical genetics and punnett squares. Friday will be practice problems on those squares.

Week of 10/13/2008

Biology
Hope everyone enjoyed their Columbus Day off and used it productively to prepare for Jeopardy Review. Wednesday will be our test on cellular transport and the cell cycle. Be prepared to draw! Thursday we will begin our new topic of the origin of life and evolution...Chapter 12 in you text. I won't be in school on Friday so the in class assignment is 12-28 from the chapter 12 review. Hand it in Monday at the latest.

AP
We will continue our discussion of Respiration this week. Tuesday we will record and evaluate the results of our cellular respiration seed lab. Hopefully the long weekend didn"t cause too many problems. we will also lecture anaerobic respiration and complete the review sheets. Thursday will be a respiration quiz. Friday we will start the stages of the cell cycle.

Week of October 6, 2008

BIOLOGY
We are continuing our work with cells this week focusing on the stages of the cell cycle. Tuesday will be a quiz on cellular transport processes(last weeks topic) after the quiz we will begin a lab on stage identification which will be due on Thursday. Thursdays lecture topic will be meiosis and srudents will construct Ven diagrams to compare mitosis and meiosis. We will end the week with a movie on the stages of division.

AP BIOLOGY
Our focus this week will be the processes of photosynthesis and respiration. wednesday will be a quiz on the light reaction and the calvin cycle.We will set up our respiration lab on Thursday and read results Friday. I'm planning on collecting lab notebooks early next week

Week Of September 29, 2008

Biology...
We are continuing with our topic of cells. In class on Monday we will complete the cell lab with reports due on Tuesday. Remember cell portfolios are due on Wednesday. Each needs to include:organelle worksheet, cell parts worksheets, & chapter review 12-28. Tuesday we will begin lecture on transport processes. There will be a lab on Wednesday and Thursday with report due Friday. No quiz this week ...but expect one early next week.

AP Biology
Most of Monday was spent on our makeup test...Bio/Chem topics. Tuesday we will complete our work on enzymes while exploring their reactions to a variety of environmental properties. Cell quiz on Wednesday.Notebooks will be collected on Thursday they must include...coacervate lab, cellular fractionation, Catalase,Membrane worksheet and enzyme research questions. Thursday will also be our introduction lecture to photosynthesis..we will set up chromatography lab and read results on Friday.

WEEK OF: September 21 2008

Biology

This week we continue our discussion of cells starting Monday with our team reports on amusement park designs.(Hope it was fun). Tuesday will be quiz day focusing on cellular organelles and the cell theory.Wednesday we will have a short lecture then begin lab which will continue for 2 days.Lab reports will be due Fridayat the end of class. Everyone should be staying current on their cell portfolios. They will be due Monday 9/29 at the earliest.



Ap Biology
We are continuing our focus on cells this week and will be covering topics of cellular transport and metabolism. I will collect lab notebooks on Friday...Looking for coacervates, fractionation, osmosis/diffusion and enzymes. Friday will be a quiz on all cell topics.

Week of September 15, 2008

Biology
Luckily we planned our chapter 1 test for last Thursday and not Friday when the lights went out! This week we will be starting our new topic CELLS...Chapter 3 from your text. I've assigned 12-28 from the chapter review for this Friday... answer in a complete sentences please. Everyone will start a "cell portfolio" which will replace a major chapter test on the topic of cells.(Something a little bit different) It is on going and will be due approximately the 29th of September. I'll explain more as the week goes on. Quiz this week scheduled for Friday which will also be the day we start our lab.


AP Biology
What a way to start the week...with a test. Hopefully the extended weekend gave you time to study! This week we are leaving Organic chem behind and moving into the amazing world of cells.There are several labs that accompany the topic... Lab notebooks will be due early next week.

Assignments for week of September 8, 2008
Biology Classes
We will be finishing off chapter 1 this week. Tuesday will be our last lecture for the upcoming test on biotechnology. We will be reading articles from a biotech magazine while completing a worksheet.Worksheet must be completed by Wednesday. Wednesday will be Jeopardy review chapter 1 and Chapter 1 test will be Thursday.
Friday we will Introduce our new topic CELLS which is chapter 3 from text.



Ap Biology
We will continue our current topic of organic compounds(chapter 3 from text).Tuesday will be lecture on lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. Wednesday will be review worksheets on polymers. Thursday will be test day on chapters 1-3. Friday we will intro cells in lecture.

Week of September 2nd-5th 2008

Biology Classes:
This week our topic will be Chapter 1 from the text entitled " the microscope". A worksheet, due Wednesday, will require parts be named and functions provided. Thursday and Friday will be spent in lab reinforcing what we have learned about the scope and its use. Lab Report will be due for Monday 8/8. Our quiz this week will be Friday.

AP Bioogy
We will continue reviewing properties of water covering pH and osmosis. Lab notebooks will be collected on Thursday. Our new lecture topic will be organic chem. and will take us into next week. I am planning a quiz on intro material and properties of water for Friday. Be ready!!!

Week of 8/25/08

WELCOME BACK !!!!!

All 10th grade bio students will need a spiral one subject notebook for class each day.We have brand new textbooks for everyone...YEAH! Lecture on chapter one will start on Tuesday. There will be a few in class activities that may need to be finished for homework. I've scheduled your first quiz for Friday.


AP Bio students need a 3 ring binder and a bound lab notebook. We also have new text books and will start our lecture on day 1! Initial lectures will be mainly review of basic bio and chem topics. Some in class activities may require finishing at home.
