Week of March 29 2010

BIO.
We have finally come to the end of our topics on Human genetics. That means its time for a test!!! Monday will be a review day and Tuesday will be the test.Wednesday & Thursday we will make "Reebops" as our final lab, giving you a chance to show off what you have learned this marking period. The end of the 3rd Marking Period!

AP Bio.
After our brief refresher on Punnett squares last week we are ready to move beyond Mendel and explore some more unusual patterns of inheritance. We will end the week with DNA structure and function. No Tests or quizzes this week.

Week of March 22 2010

BIOLOGY.
We will continue or topic of human genetics focusing on blood types. Monday a worksheet on inbreeding in the royal family as a possible starting point for the mutation that caused Hemophelia. Tuesday we will lecture Rh factor and end class with some Punnett squares with blood types. This paper has to be finished for homework. Wednesday we will do the blood type lab activity. Report due by Friday. Thursday we will quiz on blood types and lecture additional types of inheritance. Friday we will focus on prebirth testing and genetic screening techniques.
We're almost in the 4th marking period!

AP BIOLOGy
The worst is behind us clear sailing with the familiar topics of the cell cycle and meiosis which will start our week. Reinforcement will come from the Biology Corner site and involve the internet. Quiz will be Friday. Wednesday we will introduce DNA from a historical viewpoint. Thursday we will watch the movie Photo 51 about Rosalind Franklins role in DNA. Friday Replication how and why will be covered with a worksheet reinforcement.

Week of March 15, 2010

BIOLOGY,
We will continue with our discussion of human genetics this week. There will be 3 lectures on Twin types and Blood typing with a quiz on Thursday. Karyotype labs are due Tuesday and Pedigree analysis Wed, and blood type worksheets for Friday. Have a good week.

Ap Biology,
Lecture Monday will introduce aerobic respiration and cover the steps of the Calvin Cycle.
Tuesday we will set up our seed respiration lab and read results on Wednesday. Second period Wednesday wil be lecture on anaerobic respiration. Thursday will be worksheet and lab report day with Quiz on Respiration Friday. Meiosis and Mitosis will be our next topic.

Week of March 8 2008

BIOLOGY
As I predicted most of you really enjoy Punnett squares and have gotten quite good at solving them. You'll have the opportunity to impress me with your skill in Tuesday's test.100 points up for grabs with 80 of them coming from squares. Wednesday we will start our lecture on Human genetics including twin types and blood types. Thursday will be another lecture on the history of blood types and their Punnett square connection. Followed up woth work sheets and labs that will take us through Friday. No quiz this week.

AP Biology
We are in the middle of our 2 toughest topics of the year.Hopefully I haven't lost anyone.
Monday we will lecture the Calvin Cycle and reinforce with a worksheet. Remember your Lab notebooks are due Tuesday! We will add another lab on Pigment extraction and Chromatography. Wednesday sounds like a good Quiz day lecture on unusual photosynthesis situations...C3/C4 plants and cyclic/noncylic processes.Thursday we will set up a respiration lab and intro respiration in lecture. Friday we will record lab results and graph our results.

week of 3/1/10

Biology
Let's try this again...We've started our Punnett Squares and are now masters of monohybrids. Tuesday we will complete our coin toss probability reports. Wednesday will be a quiz and we'll start on dihybrid crosses.Thursday we will introduce the last type of squares...incomplete dominance and spend the day practicing. Friday will be test prep including Punnett Square races. Monday 3/8/10 will be our major test.

AP Biology.
Tuesdays lab on liver catalase will wrap up our discussion of cells. That means Wednesday is the perfect day for a chapter test! Thursday we will begin the first of the two toughest chapters in the course...photosynthesis, light reaction and Calvin cycle. Hope you are ready to work hard! Lab on pigment extraction and reference front calculations will be done on Friday.
