Week of 1/25/10

BIOLOGY
This week we will continue our focus on DNA. Monday we will reinforce structure of the molecule by building paper models. Tuesday will be lecture on the process of replication and complete a reinforcement worksheet. Wednesday we move on to mutations and their impact on populations and evolution as a whole.Thursday will be an activity on mutations and a Quiz on everything learned to that point.We will wrap up the week tracing the steps that take DNA to protein completing a paper lab that demonstrates the process.

AP BIOLOGY
We pick up the week with our topic properties of water. Monday will begin with lecture and progress to lab ! Which should be finished by the end of class. Tuesday will begin with info on Movement of water across a membrane with a dialysis tube lab...set up . Wednesdays topic is pH and we will end class by reading lab results from Tuesday. Thursday will be our Red Cabbage lab. With a Properties of water QUIZ scheduled for Friday!

Week of 1 /18/10

BIOLOGY
Hopefully you all survived the midterms! Now it's time to start the second 1/2 with Genetics. Lecture will start on Wednesday with an intro to DNA (we're going to start on the molecular level and work our way up.). You will get a homework time line on genetic progress due for Friday. In class we will extract DNA from cheek cells and make a paper model of the Double Helix but of which require lab reports which will be due Monday1/25.


AP BIO
Starts on Thursday with a new section so it will be like the first day of school all over again! Be prepared for a 2 period lecture on Themes of Biology and properties of water.Our first lab report will be on water and due Monday..

week of 1/11/10

AP BIOLOGY /General Biology and Academic Biology..

Ready or not it's.... MIDTERM EXAM WEEK!!!
We will review Monday and Tuesday. Testing will be according to the following schedule. Wednesday-Periods 1-2
Thursday- Periods 6-7
Friday- Periods 3-4
Tuesday 1/19- Period 5 following a 2 hour delay schedule
Remember these tests count as 10% (20%for AP)of your semester average. Make sure you put in enough study time and get plenty of rest so you can WOW me with your biological knowledge. Be warned, I got 2 new boxes of red pens just in case!!!

Week of 1/4/10

BIOLOGY
What a fast vacation! Hope you didn't go through Bio lecture withdrawl. We have a short topic for our short week...Virus and Immunity!We will hit the ground running with a full period lecture covering virus structure and life cycles. Tuesday will be a short lab and lecture will continue with topics including viral variations, transmission and control. Wednesday I'm scheduling a quiz and we will explore some epidemics that made history...including our current issues with swine flu. Friday we will wrap up our disease discussion with immunity. Hope you have learned a lot and found our discussions interesting! Friday and Monday we will spend our time reviewing for our midterm!

AP BIOLOGY
Well it's almost over, hard to believe 1/2 the year is almost up. We have one more topic IMMUNITY before your midterm. I'm going to try to fit in 1 more quiz...Maybe Wednesday. Which will give us Thursday and Friday for review. Right now I would like to test 3rd period Thursday and Dissect starfish 4th. I'll keep you up dated!
