Week of 12/19/16

Bio classes this week will be working on cellular respiration. We will start the week with a lecture on aerobic respiration on Monday followed by an anaerobic lecture Tuesday. Wednesday will be a lab on muscle fatigue that will continue on Thursday The completed lab report is due Friday. Have a happy holiday everyone!

Week of 12/12/16

Academic Biology- Monday we will review the light reaction of photosynthesis and introduce the Calvin cycle. Tuesday we will lecture the Calvin cycle. Wednesday lecture C3 AND C4 plants. Thursday will be a 50 point test on photosynthesis...you will have 20 minutes of open notebook time if you bring in a pet food donation for the SPCA. Friday we will introduce respiration.

AP biology Monday Quiz on Hardy Weinberg. Tuesday Lecture Natural selection verses artificial selection worksheets on homologies and analogies. Wednesday Lecture on the origin of species Begin poster activity Thursday complete poster assignment the color of my skin. Fr4iday research questions on speciation.

Week of 12/5/16

Academic Bio
Welcome to the beginning of the 3 toughest weeks in Biology. We will be focusing on photosynthesis and respiration. Starting with a lecture on the electromagnetic spectrum Monday. A research assignment will also be assigned which will be due Friday. Tuesday we will explore color and its role in photosynthesis. Wednesday will be a lab day on pigments of photosynthesis. Thursday Quiz and finish off lab. Friday research is due and we will work or a RS on photosynthesis.
AP bio will spend the week practicing Hardy Weinberg and learning the application of Chi Square. Quiz will be Thursday.

Week of 11/28/16

Hope you enjoyed vacation we will start back up on Tuesday with a lecture on how variations are added to sperm and egg.
Wednesday Jeopardy review day and Thursday will be test day on the cell cycle and meiosis. Friday we begin our most difficult topics of photosynthesis and respiration with a lecture on how organisms get the energy they need to survive.

REMEMBER PORTFOLIOS ARE DUE MONDAY THE 14TH!!!!!
Academic Bio- This week we start our new topic the cell cycle. Monday will be an intro lecture which continues into Tuesday. If time allows we will begin a lab on identification of the stages of the cell cycle which will run through Wednesday. We will also lecture the cell cycle cancer connection Wednesday Cell cycle Lab will be due Thursday. Thursday there will be a quiz followed by a RS on the Radium Girls Due Friday. Friday lecture to introduce meiosis.

AP- Monday Test on DNA. Tuesday we will move to Genetics and Punnett Squares. We will follow lecture with some practice squares. Wednesday we will continue our work with Punnett squares but learn a short cut additive and multiplication rules. Practice worksheet will follow. Thursday Intro to Chi Square Followed by a lab activity that will take us into Friday...Anticipated quiz Monday 11/21.

Tuesday lecture on active transport. Wednesday work day on cell portfolio remember it's due Monday November 14th. Thursday quiz on transport followed by an introduction to the cell cycle. Friday lecture stages of the cell cycle.

Marking period ends on Tuesday, We are in the middle of cell portfolio remember the finished product is due on Nov. 14. This week we will continue our focus on cells. Monday will be a worksheet on cellular organelles. Tuesday cell quiz and work time on portfolios. Wednesday lecture on cell transport focus on passive transport. Start gummy lab. Thursday continue lecture make day 12 observations on gummy bears. Friday day 3 observations on gummy bears and continue lecture if time allows.

Academic Biology We are underway with our study of cells and cellular processes. Everyone has been assigned a portfolio due Monday November 14th. Remember it counts as a test grade and more assignments will be added each week so please don't fall behind! No better way to start the week than with a full period lecture on cellular organelles! I can hardly wait. Tuesday we will finish any lecture as needed and start our cell lab cellular organelles. Lab will continue through Thursday. Report will be due by the end of class Friday. Week of 10/17/16

Only 2 weeks left in the first marking period! Hard to believe how quickly time is going. Academic Biology is finishing up with organic topic. Monday there will be time to finish the enzyme lab started Friday. Report will be due on Wednesday because there is a test on Tuesday and you will need Monday night to study. Wednesday we will lecture in class intro to cells and Thursday will be a research assignment cell timeline. The finished timeline will be due next week. Friday lecture cellular organelles.

Week of 10/11/16

Academic Biology
Lecture proteins and enzymes. Anything we don't finish on Tuesday will be completed on Wednesday and followed up with a worksheet That will be due Thursday. Thursday will be a Lab day "Mr enzyme to the Rescue" it's a messy on and it smells something to look forward to. Completed lab report will be due Friday. Friday we will wrap up organic Chemistry and prep for Mondays test.
AP Biology- We start our week with a quiz on the cell cycles including mitosis, meiosis and binary fission. If there is time we will begin lecture on the electromagnetic spectrum leading into our focus for the week Photosynthesis. It's a tough one! Wednesday will be lecture leaving time to set up a lab on chromatography of leaf pigments. Thursday no one will be in class because of the Renaissance Faire so we will read lab results and work on calculations on Friday.

Wednesday Lecture carbs and fats. Thursday reading strat on the Butter wars(due Friday) Friday lecture protein and nucleic acid.
AP Bio- Monday is test day on cells. Following the test we will work on cell cycle lab due Wednesday. Tuesday lecture meiosis. Wednesday- lecture binary fission followed by research on topics. Thursday quiz cell cycle/meiosis. Friday start cellular respiration.

This week marks 1/2 through the first marking period. Interims will be mailed out on Wednesday. Academic Bio is continuing to work with properties of water. Monday we will complete lab. The report will be due on Tuesday. Tuesday we will lecture pH followed by a pH lab on Wednesday. Report will be due on Thursday. Thursday we will review with a Biochem/property of water test on Friday. AP Bio-Focus is on cells. Monday lecture on cytoskeleton and cellular junctions. Tuesday cell fractionation lab(report due Friday) Wednesday Test on cells. Thursday Cell cycle lecture followed by a simulated stage identification lab and calculation of time in stage. Which will carry over onto Friday.

Academic Biology.-Monday- Make up tests for anyone who missed Fridays test day. Everyone else will start unit 2 lecture intro to biochem. Tuesday- Practice reading the periodic table and drawing Bohr Models. Reinforcement worksheet that must be finished for Wednesday. Wednesday Quiz Intro Biochem and Bohr Models followed by lecture on Properties of water. Thursday the lecture on water will be completed. Friday Properties of water Lab.

Academic Bio- Monday and Tuesday this week will be microscope lab days. We will look at prepared slides and make some of our own using pond water. The completed lab and analysis questions will be due Wednesday. Wednesday we will finish lecture on tools of the biologist. Thursday review day for Fridays test. The test will include all of note packet 1.
AP Bio. We will start our week with practice identifying organic molecules and topic review. Tuesday we will test on properties of water and organic molecules. Wednesday we will lecture enzymes as biological catalysts followed by a Lab on Thursday. Friday quiz on catalysts followed by intro to cells.

Friday lecture History of the microscope start microscope diagram and what the parts due.
AP Biology- Tuesday- lecture carbohydrates set up water potential lab. Wednesday properties of water quiz read lab results on water potential. Thursday- cabbage lab due. Lecture lipids, proteins and nucleic acids. Any remaining time will be used for reinforcement worksheets , research or lab report(due Monday)Friday lab on polymers.

Academic Bio- Monday welcome back speech. Be sure to have a 3 ring binder, paper, pen and pencil ready to go for each class. Tuesday- Lecture-What is science/ observation and inference. follow up worksheet that will be due Wednesday.
Wednesday lecture on scientific method. Worksheet on using SM due Thursday. Thursday lecture dependent and independent variables practice graphing in class. Friday Experimental design lab set up no class for periods 7 & 8.
AP Biology- No time to waste so after a brief welcome back Monday we move right into lecture on properties of water. This is review that we will complete Tuesday and follow up with lab that will run into Wednesday. Water Lab Report due Tuesday 9/6. Wednesday lecture pH. Thursday red cabbage lab. Friday work day on lab reports and water research questions. Both due Wednesday 9/7.

Week of 5/9/16

AP Bio- This a big week...AP Exam Monday. Stay calm and think! Good luck to all! Even though the test will be finished we aren't wrapping things up just yet. Tuesday we will lecture developmental Bio topics that will get us ready for the 3 dissections I'd like to do. Wednesday we will focus in on sea stars lecture followed by dissection. Thursday we will lecture crayfish followed by time to finish working with the sea star if needed. If not we will jump right into crayfish lab. which will continue on to Friday.
Biology Our week begins with a lecture and activity on survivorship curves. Tuesday lecture on natural resources and ecological footprints followed by a worksheet. Wednesday lecture ecological succession. Thursday worksheet review ecology topics. Fr5iday will be a test day on Ecology. Last test of the year.

Week of May 2, 2016

The next 2 weeks are a disaster for AP bio between the testing and the field trips I don't think I'll see everyone until the 16TH.I'm printing note packets so everyone has the info. We are going with a research assignment on virus instead of a quiz. Papers went out today(Monday) and they will be due by Friday. The only other assignment for the week is the Bacteria lab which is due Wednesday. We will use Wednesday, Thursday AND Friday TO REVIEW FOR THE ap TEST Monday.

Bio- We are working on ecology for the rest of the year. This week starts with a review of energy in ecosystems followed by a worksheet that will be due Tuesday. Tuesday we will lecture cycles in nature. Wednesday will focus on the predator prey cycle. We will use a lab to reinforce our topic. Thursday we will complete the lab and Quiz. Friday we will look at populations, including distribution and survivorship worksheets are included for both topics.

Ap bio- Our topic for the week will be bacteria and virus. Monday is slated as a 2 period lecture. Tuesday we will set up our culture plates and complete lecture on requirements for bacterial growth. Wednesday intro lecture to virus followed by lab time to add test products to culture plates. Thursday Bacteria quiz Lab work day prepared slides and Gram staining. Friday will be a test prep day.
Biology. we will finish off our classification topic Monday in lecture. a worksheet will follow. Tuesday will be a cladogram activity. Wednesday will be a quiz day. Thursday intro to ecology with terms from biosphere to populations. Friday we will lecture food webs and chains followed by a worksheet due Monday.

Wednesday lecture the Kingdoms supported by WS On classification. Thursday worksheet due. Lecture topic dichotomous Keys. Practice worksheet using salamander key. Friday will be a quiz, salamander key due and an opportunity to make your own key using buttons.
AP Biology- Monday lecture the evolution of behavior. Lab the beaks of Finches...Due Friday. Tuesday lecture speciation. Poster activity as teams. Wednesday- continue working on speciation poster, article the color of my skin and remember How females choose their mates is due. Thursday-Test Evolution. Friday Lecture Genetic manipulation.

Biology is working on evolution Monday we will work on and organism design activity that includes a 5x5. Tuesday Lecture Artificial Selection. Review for test on Wednesday with test on Thursday. Friday we will start our new topic of classification.
AP bio starts the week with a quiz on gene expression and natural selection. Tuesday we will finish watching GATTACCA and lecture Hardy Weinberg if time allows. Wednesday will be practice problems with Hardy Weinberg Thursday will be our gold fish lab Report due Monday. and Friday we will introduce evolution of behavior and beaks of finches lab. Report due Wednesday.
Bio II. We will complete the poster assignment Monday. Review for test Tuesday and be ready for our Test Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will be lecture on bacteria and the development of antibiotics

Week of 4/4/16

Academic bio classes will start the week completing their Natural selection Lab. It's due Tuesday. Tuesday will start with a QUIZ and follow up with lecture on supports for evolution. We will complete our discussion of evolution supports on Wednesday and start an activity called the most intelligent mammal. This activity will take 2 days and the finished report is due Friday We will wrap up our week and our evolution topic with Natural and artificial selection a supporting worksheet will be started in class and finished for homework. I'm planning a review on Monday 4/11 followed with a TEST Tuesday that week.

AP BIo will begin the week with a mini lesson on gene regulation...Including the lac operon. There is a ws that accompanies our discussion. Tuesday lecture will introduce Evolution and evidence used to support it. If time allows we will start a lab using Nuttell Precipitation. If not that will be our starting point on Tuesday followed by a discussion on patterns of evolution. Nuttell Lab will be due on Friday. Orgami bird lab will fill Wednesday and most of Thursday with the flyoff on that day. Friday lecture what are cladograms and some practice on reading evolutionary trees. No tests or quizzes this week.

Bio II Our week is filled with evolution based articles, research and activities. all will be due by the end of the week. Thursday will be a review day and Friday we will have our evolution test. HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Week of 3/28/16

Bio We will wrap up genetics with a discussion on Monday focusing on genetic engineering and biotechnology.. I'm not planning a test for our topic so no worries. There will be a reading strategy related to our discussion Tuesday that will be due for Wednesday. Wednesday we will introduce Evolution in lecture present Darwins theory of Natural selection. Thursday will be a worksheet on Natural selection and Friday will wrap up the week with a discussion on supports for evolution.

AP Bio- This week starts with a lecture on replication Supported with a few thought questions due for Thursday Tuesday we will take the leap from DNA to protein focusing on the role of enzymes and RNA. Wednesday we will have a mini lesson on CHI square as an evaluator of accuracy for genetic probability.There will be a few practice problems and a simulated lab activity using Indian Corn. The completed report will be due Next Monday. Thursday we will complete our mutation discussion and possible have some review time in prep for Fridays Test on DNA. Have a great week

Short week this week with a lot to get done....
AP BIo- MONDAY AND tUEADAY WILL BE A QUICK REVIEW OF Mendel AND THE LAWS OF GENETICS. wE WILL DO SOME PRACTICE pUNNETT SQUARES BEFORE OUR QUIZ ON Wednesday. Thursday WILL BE LECTURE ON Watson AND cRICK AND AN ACTIVITY INVOLVING mESELSON AND sTAHLS EXPERIMENT TO PROVE REPLICATION IS SEMICONSERVATIVE.
BIO We'll start the week with a blood typing lab. Report will be due on Tuesday. Tuesday we will complete our lecture on twins. Quiz is scheduled for Wednesday on blood types followed be a short lecture on population sampling. Thursday we will watch a movie on genetics.
Bio II- Monday lecture on the levels of behavior. Tuesday beaks of finches lab.Report due Thursday Wednesday Lecture speciation. Thursday Activity on punctuated verses gradualism which will be continued on Monday after Easter.

Tuesday we will lecture the Calvin Cycle and complete a works sheet. Wednesday lecture unusual situations in photosynthesis followed by quiz review. Thursday is quiz day. If time permits we will lecture on respiration. Friday muscle fatigue lab.

Biology- We are working on Classical genetics and will spend most of the week practicing Punnett squares. Monday is incomplete/ codominance. We will do some square together in class. Tuesday is worksheet day. Wednesday jeopardy review with Punnett square races.Test Thursday. Friday introduce human genetics in lecture.

In AP Bio this week we wrap up the cell divisions Including lectures on cell cycle, binary fission and sex cell formation. Research questions will be assigned which will be due Friday and a quiz will be give on Thursday. Next topics are photosynthesis and respiration.
Biology will spend the next 2 weeks working with probability and genetics. Coin Toss lab will start Wednesday and be due Friday. No Quizzes or tests this week. Test probably Wed or Thursday next week. of next week.

Week of 2/7/16

Snow days Monday and Tuesday have set us back a little so here is the new improved schedule for the week.
AP Biology- Wednesday Lecture on homeostasis with time to set up water potential lab. Thursday we will start class with a brief review of pH followed by reading lab results and calculating water potential for our fruit samples. The Lab will be due Tuesday next week. Friday Red Cabbage as a pH indicator lab. Report Due Wednesday 2/3. Remember we have a quiz scheduled for Monday 2/1on properties of Water.
Biology- Wednesday is a lecture day on DNA replication. Thursday we will watch Photo 51 and complete a review sheet on DNA structure. Sheet needs to be finished Friday we are going to try DNA extraction from cheek cells. Lab will be due on Monday. Remember there is a quiz on Monday!

Short week this week with a lot to cover...
Academic Biology- Wednesday and Thursday you will have time in class to work on your Karyotype project. I would like the completed map and research to be handed in for Friday. Friday will be a review worksheet on DNA with Jeopardy review for Monday and Test Tuesday 2/23.
AP Biology- Our focus is the cell and transport processes. Lecture all day Wednesday. Thursday there is a field trip but those left behind will have an prganelle worksheet. Any remaining time can be used for cell research. Friday we will complete active transport lecture and surface area to volume ratio of cells. Followed by an activity.
Bio II Wednesday Lecture supports for evolution. Friday will be nuttall Precipitation lab.

Week of 1/20/16

Well we are starting the 3rd marking period today. Hard to believe how quickly time is passing.
Biology- Our 3rd marking period is devoted to genetics and evolution. I think the material is exciting I hope you do too. Wednesday- Intro lecture to what controls heredity. Thursday lecture on the people involved in developing the double helix model of DNA. Friday movie Photo51.

AP Biology- Welcome to my new class. We start day one with Lecture on the properties of water Friday lecture topics will be reinforced through a series of demonstrations of the properties of water.

Bio II- Lecture how can Mendels laws of genetics apply to punnett squares? Friday-Practice Punnett square problems.
