Week of 12/11/17

Academic Biology We will spend Monday and Tuesday talking about the process of meiosis. There will be a cancer RS and a meiosis worksheet due for Tuesday end of class.Wednesday we will introduce our new topic of photosynthesis in lecture. Thursday will be jeopardy review with a test scheduled for Monday.

AP Biology- We are working on protein synthesis and Monday and Tuesday will be a combo of lecture and reinforcement worksheets. Wednesday will be a work day on AP test questions. Thursday a Quiz on protein synthesis. Friday focus on Gene expression in cells...the operons.

AP Biology- This week will focus on DNA history and the process of replication. Tuesday will be 42 slides of notes for both classes. Period 1 will finish note Wednesday then start Meselson Stahl experiment. Thursday lecture on replication process and Friday research question on the topic.

Academic Biology... Tuesday Intro lecture on The cell cycle. Wednesday lecture on specific stages of the cell cycle. Thursday activity identification of cell cycle stages and Friday quiz and finish off activity.

Bio II- Tuesday Lecture topic Protists. Wednesday Lecture animal like protists. Thursday lab/ worksheet. Friday Lecture plant like protists.

AP Biology. Our focus this week is cellular respiration. we will have 2 labs, one on muscle fatigue and one on seed respiration. Our labs will take up most of class time and will be due Wednesday next week. I plan on having a quiz Friday .

AP Biology

Thursday will be a lecture on the light reaction of photosynthesis there might be time to work on Rf lab which is due Tuesday. Friday we will wrap up photosynthesis with a calvin cycle lecture. Monday ws wrap up in prep for Tuesdays Photosynthesis Quiz. Wed-Friday we will work on cellular respiration with a seed lab set up.

Aca Bio Thursday we will finish up lecture on cellular organelles followed by a study guide organelle sheet. Friday will be a practice worksheet identifying organelles... Remember your cell timeline research is due. Monday through Wednesday will be lab days. You will have a chance to observe some of the organelles discussed in class. Big Organelle Quiz on Thursday and we will continue our discussion of cells focusing in on transport for Friday.

BIOII Thursday will be jeopardy review and Friday will be our virus bacteria test. Monday we will begin our new topic of immunity that will take us through Friday. Probable quiz Thursday or Friday. Monday remember virus research is due.

Week of October 10/23/17

AP Biology- This week we will be focused on sexual reproduction and early development. There are no labs scheduled this week so our days will be a mix of lecture and research on your latest assignment which is due for Friday. I'm also planning a quiz for Friday that I would like to include in this marking period.

Academic Bio- Monday we will complete our lecture on organic compunds Tuesday lecture enzymes and their function. Butter wars RS is due. Wednesday worksheet organic review and a QUIZ. Thursday and Friday Lab Mr Enzyme. We should be ready next week for Jeopardy review the 30 and Organic Test the 31. Test will count for the second marking period.

Bio II Monday we will complete part ii of Discovery school Bacteria. Tuesday will be our presentation day on Most wanted Bacteria. Wednesday Lecture Intro to Virus. Thursday lecture Viral lifecycles. Friday will be a virus quiz and time to start on research questions on virus.

AP Biology- Tuesday we start Homecoming week with a Quiz on cellular structure and function. Wednesday, a data delay we will start lecturing on the cell cycle Lecture will continue through Thursday and we will start lab on identifying stages of the cell cycle.

Biology- Tuesday and Wednesday will be lecture introducing organic chem. Thursday a worksheet on water properties and Friday we will Jeopardy review for Mondays Biochem Test.

Bio II we will spend the week with our bacteria culture plates Tuesday we will look at prepared slides and try to kill bacteria we grew.

Week of 10/2/17

AP Bio- This week we continue our focus on cellular organelles. We will finish off lecture Monday and Tuesday with this weeks lab focusing on centrifugation its projected due date is 10/11. There are a lot of things due this week... Monday why are cells so small lab, Friday 2 cell worksheets and research on the wondrous world of cells. We are scheduled for a quiz Tuesday 10/10.Thursday will be a work day since most of you will be going to the college fair.

Aca Bio- we are still focused on properties of water and will spend Monday completing the activities we started on Friday. Tuesday is a quiz day any time left can be used to complete lab reports which will be due Wednesday. Wednesday Lecture pH. Thursday pH lab and Friday RS Rivers on Rolaids...also pH lab is due.

Bio II- We will start the week with a work day to collect missing assignments...there are a bunch from the age of fossils. Tuesday will be a quiz followed by the introduction of our new topic Bacteria with lecture. Wednesday lecture on classification of bacteria through possible shapes with a worksheet on Edward Jenner(due Friday).Friday we will streak plates and introduce culturing.

Biology....Welcome to Keystone week. Knowing how stressed you will be , and tired, after testing all morning I've decided to do activities this week. Monday thru Wednesday will be a predator prey simulation and Thursday and Friday will a biomagnification activity. All work will be done in class...completed activities will be due Friday.
AP Bio Monday and Tuesday focus beaks of finches. Report due Friday. I'll be covering Keystones Wed and Thursday remember Wednesday is an open notebook evolution test and Thursday will be work time for the research question due Friday.

Academic Bio Classes
Monday we will wrap up some loose ends in ecology. We'll continue with some labs and activities after the Keystones. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will be spent reviewing for the Keystone exam which will be given next Monday and Tuesday.
AP Biology.
Good Luck everyone on the AP Biology exam scheduled for Monday May 8. We will get back into the swing of things Tuesday continuing with evolution. There are several labs and activities that we put on hold until after the exam so that is how we will be filling our week.

Week of 5/1/17

Academic Biology. We are beginning our final topic for the year...ecology. Monday in lecture we will focus on energy flow through ecosystems with a review worksheet on food webs and chains due Tuesday. Tuesday lecture topic cycles in nature the activity that goes along with this will be done May 15 and 16th after keystone testing. Wednesday we will introduce population Patterns and density in lecture and follow up with a worksheet that will be due Thursday. Thursday lecture on survivorship curves supported with an activity due Friday. Friday is Quiz day with work time for assignments.

AP Biology- We will finish our AP lecture with specifics on the evolution of life. The plan is to start Tuesday with intensive review that will continue through Friday. Monday 5/8 is the big day spend some time over the weekend reviewing and be sure to get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast.

Academic Biology- This week we will wrap up our discussion on classification. Monday lecture on cladograms followed by a worksheet on reading cladograms worksheet on dichotomous keys due. Tueday Jeopardy review ( cladogram worksheet due) with our big chapter test , classification and evolution scheduled for Wednesday. Thursday we will introduce our final topic for the year ecology... Remember Keystones are on the 15th of May!!!

AP Bio- Monday I won't see you it is scheduling day for the AP exam. Tuesday we will work on some practice problems with Hardy Weinberg formula and carry that over into Wednesday with the fishy frequency lab. Thursday lecture on the evolution of behavior followed by Beaks of Finches lab. Remember orgami bird lab is due. Friday will be lecture on speciation.

Wednesday we will start lecture on classification with focus on Karl von Linne and the 8 levels of classification. Week of 4/10/17

Academic biology-All biology classes will begin the week with a lecture on supporting evidence for evolution. Lab on Natural selection is due today. Tuesday- Lecture will continue with a comparison of natural verses artificial selection. We will end the day with a reading strategy that supports our topic Wednesday will start with a quiz and continue with an in class activity challenging you to design an organism suited to live on my planet and write a 5x5 to convince me of it's "perfection". Thursday will be an in class work day...both the reading strategy and organism design will be due for the end of class Happy Easter.

AP Biology- Monday we will refresh our Punnett square skills with a practice sheet due Thursday. Tuesday we will learn a short cut method to squares. The additive and multiplicative rules and try some practice problems using the new techniques. Wednesday Chi Square will be introduced as a means of evaluating the validity of our probability results and Thursday we will try using Chi square in a simulated lab activity.

Academic Biology- Movie Genetics will wrap up our discussion of heredity and close the marking period. Tuesday we will begin our focus on evolution with a lecture on some early ideas as to how life began. Wednesday lecture what is evolution followed by a worksheet on Darwin that will be due Thursday. Thursday an activity on Natural Selection with report due Friday and Friday lecture supports for evolution.

APBiology- We will use Monday to finish off the respiration labs due Thursday. Tuesday QUIZ on respiration followed by lecture intro to DNA. Wednesday lecture on semi conservative replication followed by a lab on Meselson and Stahl which will be finished in class Thursday. We will also discuss gene regulation and review development on Thursday. Friday will be a one day review of Punnett squares with some practice problems.

Academic Biology...Sadly we are almost at the end of our work with genetics. We will wrap up Monday with a closing lecture( Don't forget the blood typing lab and ws on blood types is due today)We will spend Tuesday in Jeopardy Review and plan on Wednesday as TEST DAY! Thursday we will begin our new topic ... Evolution with a discussion on various theories on the origins of life. Friday we will focus on theories of Natural selection focusing on Charles Darwin.

Ap Bio- Monday we will complete our discussion of photosynthesis and we will Introduce respiration with a review of the structure of mitochondria. Tuesday will be a photosynthesis quiz followed by set up of a seed respiration lab. Wednesday lecture on aerobic respiration followed by reading lab results and clean up. completed report due Friday. Thursday lecture on muscle fatigue followed by a muscle fatigue activity that will takes us into Friday.

Week of 3/20/17

Academic Biology-
Welcome back after Stella! We are going to try to pick up just where we left off...How are human genetic studies done? We will start our Monday with some review of what we have covered so far. Then focus on Twin studies. There will be a reading strategy that goes along due for Tuesday. Tuesday we will introduce blood typing history in lecture. Wednesday we will focus lecture on Landsteiner and blood types there is a practice worksheet that goes along will be due Thursday. Thursday and Friday will be a blood typing lab with the report due Monday.
Ap Biology -
We are focused on photosynthesis and will look at the role of pigments in the light reaction. We will then try our luck with a pigment extraction activity that will allow the determining of reference fronts. We will read those results on Tuesday and work on our calculations. Wednesday we will be lecturing the light reaction and Thursday we will focus on the Calvin cycle. There will be a worksheet for reinforcement. Friday I'm feeling a quiz on development and intro to the electromagnetic spectrum.

Week of 3/12/17

Biology
This week we will continue our exploration of how humans are studied for their genetic traits. Monday and Tuesday we will focus on twin studies with a lecture. Wednesday we will introduce the history of blood typing lecture.
Thursday will be a worksheet using Punnet square to predict blood type and Friday will start our blood typing lab. All of this hinges on the impending "Mega Storm" forecast for tomorrow.

Week of 3/6/17

Academic Biology- We start our week with a Punnett square Test on Monday. As we leave pea plants behind our focus will shift to humans with Tuesdays lecture evaluating humans as subjects for genetic study. Wednesday we will lecture pedigrees and reinforce that topic with a worksheet for Thursday that will be due Friday. Friday we will investigate the hemophilia connection to the royal family with a RS that will be due Monday.

AP Biology Monday will begin with a discussion on the cell cycle in prokaryotic cells and follow up with a general overview of sexual verses asexual reproduction methods in plants, animals, fungus and bacteria. Lecture will carry over to Tuesday with hopefully some time to review for Wednesdays test on "cells". Thursday we will intro our new topic photosynthesis with an overview of the electromagnetic spectrum and the role of pigments in the food making process. Following lecture we wil set up a chromatography lab that will be used to determine Rf in class on Friday. Completed lab report will be due Wednesday of the following week.

Week of 2/27/17

Academic Biology- Last week we learned the basics of Punnett squares this week we will build on that basis with dihybrid and trihybrid crosses. Monday topic dihybrid squares with practice ws remember coin toss lab is due!. Tuesday I'll be out on a field trip so use the time to practice squares. Wed lecture codominance and incomplete dominance with practice problems. If all goes well plan on review with Punnett square races Thursday and Test on squares Friday.

AP Biology - we are still working with the cell... Monday will be lecture on the cell cycle following our quiz on cellular organelles. Why are cells so small lab due. Tuesday is our field trip to see surgery live. Wednesday we will review cell cycle and follow up with an identification of the cell stages activity. Cell research due. Thursday lecture meiosis. Friday lecture the cell cycle cancer connection with some review for Mondays test if time allows. Cell cycle lab due.

Bio- We pick up on Tuesday with Lecture on Why pea plants and the experiments of Mendel. Wednesday we'll introduce and practice worksheets on Punnett squares. Thursday and Friday will be our coin toss and probability lab with the report due Monday 2/27. Plan on a quiz this week Friday on genetics notes to that point!
AP Bio-Tuesday We will lecture organelles and follow up with the ws. Wednesday Lecture and lab on why cells are so small.Thursday lecture cell divisions. Friday lab on identification of the stages of cell division.

Week of 2/13/17

Biology- Well the weather certainly hasn't been cooperative with our testing schedule. I can't put it off any longer so we are going to divide the test into 2 sections part will be done on Monday and Tuesday we will complete the last 2 pages.If time allows on Tuesday we will begin our next lecture topic... The history of genetics. That lecture will carry over to Wednesday. With Thursday planned as an introduction to Punnett squares. There are no tests quizzes or assignments due for the remainder of the week.
Ap Biology- Even though we have a shortened class an hour should be sufficient time for you chapter 1-3 test. Tuesday will be a coacervate lab report will be due Thursday. Wednesday we will lecture cell membrane structure and function including passive transport. Thursday will be a surface area to volume ratio lab. That report will be due next Tuesday. Enjoy the long weekend.

Week of 2/6/17

Biology We will wrap up lecture on mutations Monday and Tuesday this week focusing first on causes of mutations and ending with how they can be detected before and after birth. After lecture Monday we will continue working on the mutations worksheet which will be due for Tuesday. Tuesday after lecture we will work on a karyotype activity that will continue on to Wednesday. Thursday will be jeopardy review day of DNA and Friday will be our big chapter test. So be ready.
AP Bio- Monday we will lecture enzymes as biological catalysts. Lecture should take the 2 periods. Tuesday we will reinforce our discussion of enzymes with a lab on Catalase. Report due Friday along with the plastic lab report. Wednesday- we will review for our test on chapters 1-3 with Thursday as our scheduled test day. Friday we will introduce our next topic of cells with a discussion of some early theories on how life began followed by a coacervate lab.

Academic Bio- We will start our week with a review of the different types of RNA and the job of each in protein synthesis. We will practice converting DNA to Rna and ultimately to protein in a worksheet activity that will take part of Monday and all of Tuesday. Wednesday will be a lecture day focusing on mutations. Thursday we will reinforce our discussion of mutations with a worksheet that will be due Friday. Friday we will review for Mondays test on DNA
AP Bio Monday and Tuesday will focus on Lecture of organic chem.. Research questions will be assigned due for Friday. Wednesday we will try a lab on the identification of plastics(due Monday) Thursday we will lecture enzymes and Friday will be an enzyme lab.

Week of 1/23/17

Monday we will lecture DNA replication Tuesday lecture on protein synthesis. Wednesday we will work on a work sheet to review what we covered Monday and Tuesday. Thursday sounds like a great day for a quiz. Followed by and intro to mutations and Friday we will lecture types and causes of mutations with a worksheet follow-up that will carry into next Monday.
Ap Bio Welcome to my new AP Bio group. We hit the ground running Thursday with lecture on properties of water. The lecture was reinforced with a lab that started last Friday and will finish up Monday if needed. We will need one period Monday to lecture pH which will be the topic for Tuesday red cabbage lab. Wednesday properties of water lab is due we will lecture osmosis and water potential spending 2nd period setting up a water potential lab that requires 24hours to run. We will read results Thursday and work on calculations after clean up. Friday is a quiz day properties of water. and red cabbage lab will be due.

Sorry I'm late guys but I completely forgot to blog this week so here is the week in review:
Tuesday was a 2 hour delay we used our time wisely and took the short answer part of our midterms( which are now posted)
Wednesday was exam day for all major subjects. Thursday we will complete lab analysis questions from the activity we started Thursday of last week. Completed reports are due Friday. Friday will be a quiz for all classes on DNA protein debate note packet remaining time will be used to complete our DNA model.
