Week of 3/12/17

Biology
This week we will continue our exploration of how humans are studied for their genetic traits. Monday and Tuesday we will focus on twin studies with a lecture. Wednesday we will introduce the history of blood typing lecture.
Thursday will be a worksheet using Punnet square to predict blood type and Friday will start our blood typing lab. All of this hinges on the impending "Mega Storm" forecast for tomorrow.

Week of 3/6/17

Academic Biology- We start our week with a Punnett square Test on Monday. As we leave pea plants behind our focus will shift to humans with Tuesdays lecture evaluating humans as subjects for genetic study. Wednesday we will lecture pedigrees and reinforce that topic with a worksheet for Thursday that will be due Friday. Friday we will investigate the hemophilia connection to the royal family with a RS that will be due Monday.

AP Biology Monday will begin with a discussion on the cell cycle in prokaryotic cells and follow up with a general overview of sexual verses asexual reproduction methods in plants, animals, fungus and bacteria. Lecture will carry over to Tuesday with hopefully some time to review for Wednesdays test on "cells". Thursday we will intro our new topic photosynthesis with an overview of the electromagnetic spectrum and the role of pigments in the food making process. Following lecture we wil set up a chromatography lab that will be used to determine Rf in class on Friday. Completed lab report will be due Wednesday of the following week.

Week of 2/27/17

Academic Biology- Last week we learned the basics of Punnett squares this week we will build on that basis with dihybrid and trihybrid crosses. Monday topic dihybrid squares with practice ws remember coin toss lab is due!. Tuesday I'll be out on a field trip so use the time to practice squares. Wed lecture codominance and incomplete dominance with practice problems. If all goes well plan on review with Punnett square races Thursday and Test on squares Friday.

AP Biology - we are still working with the cell... Monday will be lecture on the cell cycle following our quiz on cellular organelles. Why are cells so small lab due. Tuesday is our field trip to see surgery live. Wednesday we will review cell cycle and follow up with an identification of the cell stages activity. Cell research due. Thursday lecture meiosis. Friday lecture the cell cycle cancer connection with some review for Mondays test if time allows. Cell cycle lab due.

Week of 2/21/17

Hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend no it's back to work!
Bio- We pick up on Tuesday with Lecture on Why pea plants and the experiments of Mendel. Wednesday we'll introduce and practice worksheets on Punnett squares. Thursday and Friday will be our coin toss and probability lab with the report due Monday 2/27. Plan on a quiz this week Friday on genetics notes to that point!
AP Bio-Tuesday We will lecture organelles and follow up with the ws. Wednesday Lecture and lab on why cells are so small.Thursday lecture cell divisions. Friday lab on identification of the stages of cell division.

Week of 2/13/17

Biology- Well the weather certainly hasn't been cooperative with our testing schedule. I can't put it off any longer so we are going to divide the test into 2 sections part will be done on Monday and Tuesday we will complete the last 2 pages. If time allows on Tuesday we will begin our next lecture topic... The history of genetics. That lecture will carry over to Wednesday. With Thursday planned as an introduction to Punnett squares. There are no tests quizzes or assignments due for the remainder of the week.
Ap Biology- Even though we have a shortened class an hour should be sufficient time for you chapter 1-3 test. Tuesday will be a coacervate lab report will be due Thursday. Wednesday we will lecture cell membrane structure and function including passive transport. Thursday will be a surface area to volume ratio lab. That report will be due next Tuesday. Enjoy the long weekend.

Week of 2/6/17

Biology We will wrap up lecture on mutations Monday and Tuesday this week focusing first on causes of mutations and ending with how they can be detected before and after birth. After lecture Monday we will continue working on the mutations worksheet which will be due for Tuesday. Tuesday after lecture we will work on a karyotype activity that will continue on to Wednesday. Thursday will be jeopardy review day of DNA and Friday will be our big chapter test. So be ready.
AP Bio- Monday we will lecture enzymes as biological catalysts. Lecture should take the 2 periods. Tuesday we will reinforce our discussion of enzymes with a lab on Catalase. Report due Friday along with the plastic lab report. Wednesday- we will review for our test on chapters 1-3 with Thursday as our scheduled test day. Friday we will introduce our next topic of cells with a discussion of some early theories on how life began followed by a coacervate lab.

We will practice converting DNA to Rna and ultimately to protein in a worksheet activity that will take part of Monday and all of Tuesday. Wednesday will be a lecture day focusing on mutations. Thursday we will reinforce our discussion of mutations with a worksheet that will be due Friday. Friday we will review for Mondays test on DNA
AP Bio Monday and Tuesday will focus on Lecture of organic chem.. Research questions will be assigned due for Friday. Wednesday we will try a lab on the identification of plastics(due Monday) Thursday we will lecture enzymes and Friday will be an enzyme lab.
