BIOLOGY
Because of the unexpected winter vacation we are off track with our DNA progress. We were scheduled for a test last Thursday but anticipating a lot of "forgetting" we will review Tuesday and test Wednesday. Be sure to study. Thursday we will start the history of genetics and Punnett squares. No labs this week!

AP Biology
Tuesday we will cover cellular organelles in lecture. Wed will be the lab on fractionation. Thursday active and passive transport lecture topic with lab focused on the determination of sucrose in fruit and veggie samples. Cell Quiz early next week

BIOLOGY
Early dismissal Friday has classes at different points so our first step is to finish lecture on mutations. Some classes have stated others haven't. The worksheet and writing prompt on mutations will be due for Wednesday.Wednesday lecture on meiosis is planned with worksheets for Thursday and Test on DNA for Friday.

AP BIo
We are moving out of organic chem and into more familiar area...the cell. Monday is scheduled to be full lecture with worksheets. Don't forget lab notebooks are due ! Tuesday Coacervate lab. Wednesday Cellular organelles with fractionation lab Thursday. Cell Quiz for Friday if all goes according to plan.

Week of 2/1/10

BIOLOGY
This week we take the next step with DNA...Protein Synthesis. Monday will be a lecture on the process followed by a worksheet. Tuesday will be an RNA activity that reinforces the concepts. Wednesday I won't be here so you will be working on a packet of worksheets to tie everything together. Quiz this week is Thursday Followed by a lecture on mutations. Friday is an activity called alphabet RNA were you can demonstrate your understanding of transcription/ translation.

AP Biology
We are focusing on Organic Chem. Monday will be all lecture covering Lipids , proteins and nucleic acids. Tuesday will be organic lab day. Wed. you will have to complete labs and research as needed. Thursday worksheet packet as test review and test for Friday. Notebooks will be collected Friday as well.Have a good week

Week of 1/25/10

BIOLOGY
This week we will continue our focus on DNA. Monday we will reinforce structure of the molecule by building paper models. Tuesday will be lecture on the process of replication and complete a reinforcement worksheet. Wednesday we move on to mutations and their impact on populations and evolution as a whole.Thursday will be an activity on mutations and a Quiz on everything learned to that point. We will wrap up the week tracing the steps that take DNA to protein completing a paper lab that demonstrates the process.

AP BIOLOGY
We pick up the week with our topic properties of water. Monday will begin with lecture and progress to lab ! Which should be finished by the end of class. Tuesday will begin with info on Movement of water across a membrane with a dialysis tube lab...set up . Wednesdays topic is pH and we will end class by reading lab results from Tuesday. Thursday will be our Red Cabbage lab. With a Properties of water QUIZ scheduled for Friday!

Week of 1 /18/10

BIOLOGY
Hopefully you all survived the midterms! Now it's time to start the second 1/2 with Genetics. Lecture will start on Wednesday with an intro to DNA (we're going to start on the molecular level and work our way up.). You will get a homework time line on genetic progress due for Friday. In class we will extract DNA from cheek cells and make a paper model of the Double Helix but of which require lab reports which will be due Monday1/25.

AP BIO
Starts on Thursday with a new section so it will be like the first day of school all over again! Be prepared for a 2 period lecture on Themes of Biology and properties of water. Our first lab report will be on water and due Monday..

BIOLOGY
What a fast vacation! Hope you didn't go through Bio lecture withdrawl. We have a short topic for our short week...Virus and Immunity! We will hit the ground running with a full period lecture covering virus structure and life cycles. Tuesday will be a short lab and lecture will continue with topics including viral variations, transmission and control. Wednesday I'm scheduling a quiz and we will explore some epidemics that made history...including our current issues with swine flu. Friday we will wrap up our disease discussion with immunity. Hope you have learned a lot and found our discussions interesting! Friday and Monday we will spend our time reviewing for our midterm!
